Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy Services

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science of learning and behavior and is supported by decades of research. ABA Therapy utilizes these principles to create meaningful behavior change across a variety of socially significant behaviors, such as language and communication, play and social interaction skills, and self-care skills. ABA-based interventions have been endorsed by The American Academy of Pediatrics, The National Institute of Child Health & Human Development, The Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, The American Psychological Association, The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and The American Occupational Therapy Association.

ABA is an evidence-based treatment approach that also takes into account each individual’s unique learning needs. Behavioral principles such as reinforcement, extinction, prompting, task analyses, and self-management strategies will be incorporated into the development of an individualized intervention plan that is designed with consideration of your child’s specific learning style, strengths, and areas of need. Our goal is to embrace what makes your child unique and develop an intervention plan that celebrates that uniqueness while also enhancing your child’s ability to connect and interact with others in all facets of their lives.

How ABA Therapy for Autism Works

Our ABA therapy services are rooted in compassion, structure, and personalization. We understand that every child with autism spectrum disorder is unique, which is why our approach to autism therapy begins with building a relationship, understanding each child’s strengths, and designing a therapy plan that adapts to their growth.

Step 1: Initial Assessment & Goal Setting

Your child’s journey starts with a comprehensive assessment led by a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA). Through direct observation, family interviews, and standardized assessments, our experienced ABA provider gathers insight into your child’s abilities, preferences, and challenges. From this, we identify meaningful goals – such as building communication skills, managing daily routines, or reducing challenging behavior.

Step 2: Developing a Personalized ABA Plan

The BCBA develops an individualized ABA treatment plan tailored to your child’s developmental level and learning style. For example, a plan might target skills like greeting peers or using functional language to express needs. This plan serves as the foundation of your child’s applied behavior analysis therapy journey.

Step 3: Implementing ABA Therapy Sessions

Therapy is delivered by a skilled ABA therapist using structured and play-based methods. Sessions are available through center-based ABA therapy, in-home ABA therapy, or community-based settings – giving families flexibility to choose what fits best. Parents are encouraged to participate, creating continuity between sessions and home life.

Step 4: Data Collection & Progress Monitoring

Every session includes real-time data collection, allowing our team to track what’s working. If a child is facing barriers to learning, the BCBA may adjust strategies, modify reinforcement, or revise the environment to maintain momentum and progress.

Step 5: Generalization & Long-Term Success

The final step focuses on helping your child apply skills across environments – at school, at home, and in the community. From following a classroom routine to managing social situations, we target functional success in real-world settings, a cornerstone of behavior modification in autism.

Our ABA program has two branches: skill-building and behavior support. We use a communication-based approach to address both areas. The skill-building branch focuses on teaching essential communication, cognitive, self-care, and social skills by breaking down each skill into smaller steps and teaching each step systematically, while gradually building towards more complex skills. The behavior support branch focuses on reducing challenging behaviors by identifying the root cause contributing to the behavior and teaching appropriate replacement behaviors.

Parent and Family Involvement in ABA Therapy

Parent education and support are key components of our therapy programs aimed at providing parents with the tools and confidence necessary to support their child’s success in their everyday lives. When appropriate, training is also provided to schools and other caregivers.

We believe families are essential partners. Parents and caregivers who are actively involved in therapy reinforce learning and promote long-term outcomes. Plus, skills grow stronger when reinforced in everyday life. By learning ABA tools and integrating them at home, parents play a direct role in their child’s development.

Ways You Can Participate:

  • Join sessions led by your child’s ABA therapist
  • Use behavior strategies taught during parent coaching
  • Attend skill-building workshops or family consultation meetings
  • Celebrate your child’s wins – big and small – alongside their therapy team

We’re here to guide you with take-home tools, check-ins, and personalized support throughout your child’s therapy.

At BYS, our ABA intervention programs are individualized to meet the needs of each client and their family. The clinical service recommendation is determined by the BCBA and is based on a variety of factors. These include assessment results, which indicate the scope of the skill domains a client will focus on, and the intensity of any challenging behaviors. It is our goal to develop a therapy plan that promotes meaningful client success and progress that can lead to therapy hours reducing over time, and your child graduating from our services!

Who Can Benefit from ABA Therapy?

ABA is one of the most widely used and well-researched behavior intervention methods for children with autism. Our team supports children across a wide developmental range, from toddlers engaging in early intervention ABA therapy to pre-teens and adolescents developing independence.

Children Who May Benefit from Autism Therapy Services Include Those Who:

  • Struggle with language or communication skills
  • Experience difficulty forming social connections or interacting in groups
  • Experience frequent challenging behavior such as aggression or self-injury
  • Have trouble with daily routines like dressing, eating, or hygiene

ABA Therapy by Age Group:

  • Early Intervention (Ages 2-5): Focuses on foundational skills like play, attention, and early language
  • School-Age (6-12): Targets academics, behavior regulation, and social success
  • Adolescents (13+): Builds self-help, community skills, and preparation for future transitions

The benefits of ABA therapy vary and, as such, every child’s plan is dynamic – shaped by their personality, interests, and goals. At BYS, we welcome all families seeking evidence-based autism therapy and compassionate support.

ABA Therapy Techniques Used in Our Program

Our approach uses time-tested techniques that balance structure with play and creativity:

  • Discrete Trial Training (DTT): Systematically teaches small, manageable skills
  • Natural Environment Teaching (NET): Builds skills within play and real-life moments
  • Positive Reinforcement: Encourages behavior change through meaningful rewards
  • Task Analysis: Breaks big tasks into teachable steps
  • Prompting & Fading: Offers support, then gradually encourages independence
  • Extinction Strategies: Helps reduce behaviors by adjusting reinforcement patterns

These strategies are thoughtfully integrated into every therapy plan, offering both structure and flexibility to meet your child where they are.

If you’re ready to get started with our therapy services, we’d love to help your family explore next steps. Whether you’re interested in in-home ABA therapy or prefer a structured setting with center-based ABA therapy, our team will help you navigate the best path forward.
